The portal opened, I paddled out and life changed forever. Years later, unemployed and wanting to give back to my sacred place, a surf spot and CA state park... I started picking up trash on the beach and Pacific Coast Highway trash. Sounds pretty sane and logical and what most unemployed people would do... perhaps not! LOL... The fact is, I do not think that if fit in most places. To me, that is a good thing... Due to this condition and curiosity to see how much trash I would be able to pick up. My plan was to do my ocean clean ups for about a month. Several years passed...
Actually, this is one of forty-two actual forks that were found and strategically relocated from SoCal Beach and PCH. The road of life also presented and still presents more forks. Including one to an upstream clean up venue...
A move to NoCal changed everything. Hours from ocean, a hiatus of sorts began. Eventually, a river and a road were found in need of weekly cleaning. Not surprised, trash was found, picked up, and recorded.
Artwork was also created. The image above is one of many. Although this segment of my work was brief due to another fork in the river of life, it is equally as important. Perhaps more! After all, upstream is connected to downstream...
River gallery forthcoming.
It never was a guessing game IF there was trash on the beach and on Pacific Coast Highway. There always was something. Sadly, there probably aways will be. More frequently then not, I had items wash up next to my feet or on the area previously cleaned.
Trash or Environmentally Unfriendly Pixels, ranged from the very small items such a glass, plastic or styrofoam to very large items such as boat wreckage to automotive tires (as shown above).
There were some were pretty unimaginably gross items as shown in the Trash to Environmentally Friendly Gallery (image 9/10)
As far as my artwork, I always use items found during my clean ups. Yes, even poopie pouches. Absolutely, never, never, ever, was photoshop used aside from adding name and some minor adjustments to the raw image.
Really, the only effective barricade to keep Trash from becoming Environmentally Unfriendly Pixels is to clean up and dispose in the appropriate trash or a recycle bin. This is a win-win for visitors, residents planet and you!!! My fellow onemankando!!!
As you peruse or perused my website you will notice that I did not focus on scientific data currently available. Not due to lack of interest. There is a plethora of information available elsewhere. Not a whole lot of gloom and doom imagery or verbiage either. Some is shown, I would be remiss not mentioning it.
I believe we, myself included, are so self absorbed and accustomed to seeing trash laying around. More frequently than not, it is easier to just ignore it. Hopefully, my photography sheds a different light on trash and pollution in general. Proposing a simple way to fix the issues and give back.
Another bonus, is the next photo of an oceanic sunset or river taken by you or myself is a 100% Environmentally Friendly Pixel image!
Lastly, one of my all time favorite movies is JAWS. I was six years old the first time I saw it. This year, the movie is celebrating its fifty year anniversary. I was and still am captivated by sharks. The Great White is by far one of my favorites.
The EUF on the left is nicknamed "Trasher." It is by far, one of my most favorite Environmentally Unfriendly Pixels finds. I was jumping up and down with excitement when I saw it!!
Perhaps, finding and retaining "Trasher" kept a real life dorsal finned "Bruce" alive...
